Are International Equity mutual funds a good long term investment?

September 4th, 2010 · Mutual Funds Investment

I did a search on international equity mutual funds and they’ve performed well in the past few years; however, the majority have a very poor "since inception" rate of return. There seems to be a period around 2000 where the international market suffered.

Roughly what percentage of the US adult population invests in the stock market?

September 3rd, 2010 · Stock Market Investment

Stocks and investments are certainly given major coverage in the media, but how prevalent is the customer audience? Most people I know don’t invest. Considering that investing is much like intensely studious gambling, how many Americans actually do invest in the stock market?

Why is planned investment more than actual investment if firms sell more output than expected?

September 3rd, 2010 · Investment Planning

If firms sell more output than expected, planned investment:
is greater than actual investment.

I don’t understand this. To my logic, it’d be the other way around — they planned to sell a little, but ended up selling a lot — so actual investment must be more. But obviously Im wrong. Can someone explain this to me?

MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

BUT I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE ANALOGOUS TO “BLUFFING IN POKER” WHEN IT COMES TO STOCK AND DERIVATIVES MARKETS. Or does the concept of bluffing even apply in this case? I am NOT talking about illegal stuff such as insider’s information, market fixing schemes, etc., BTW. …Thanks in advance.

If you are a financial advisor, how do you manage assets and collect commission on AUM?

September 1st, 2010 · Financial Planning Advisor

I’m interested in becoming an independent financial advisor because I don’t want to feel obligated to push any one providers products/services. I want to know if I manage assets for a client, how best to collect commissions (a small percentage) and what is legally required in order to do so? My plan is to charge a reasonable hourly fee as well as a small percentage of AUM and I’m trying to figure out how to manage that aspect of the business.
Thank you for the last answer regarding the licensing. Now the questions is how would a licensed rep collect and manage that money if they are not with a particular firm? Is there certain software or some sort of web based management util, or is that something you somehow have to collect from the people you are working with?
